Why Combine Different Cloud Platforms?

Supercloud seems like a natural progression in a world with increasingly accessible cloud environments. IT managers and CIOs have many reasons to combine different cloud platforms, such as avoiding bottlenecks and vendor lock-in. Imagine if your entire application, hosted with one provider, experiences a major outage, rendering all servers unreachable. You have no control over the situation, and compensation for the downtime is unlikely. From a business perspective, using multiple clouds offers many advantages. However, technically, it is much more complex.

What is the Difference Between Supercloud and Multicloud?

Isn't using multiple cloud providers called multicloud? And aren't there already robust tools like Terraform that manage various clouds? Yes. These tools help write Infrastructure as Code across different clouds but still require deep technical knowledge of each cloud platform. Properly configuring your network and security across multiple clouds adds another layer of complexity.

Supercloud offers a solution by going beyond creating cloud resources on various platforms. It makes deploying applications across different platforms more transparent. For example, imagine a network that is not publicly available but creates instances in AWS, Azure, and GCP that can communicate with each other. An additional layer above the platforms abstracts the different APIs. Once a platform like 'SuperIaaS' or 'SuperPaaS' becomes available, companies can truly deploy applications across multiple cloud providers. The significant advantage over multicloud is that supercloud requires much less technical knowledge of the underlying layers.

Is There a Long Way to Go?

While the benefits of supercloud are clear, the path to widespread adoption is long and challenging. Major public cloud providers are not eager to support it, as they would lose customers and control. Vendor lock-in would disappear, as companies would prefer a transparent cloud policy. However, the demand for this technology is growing and will continue to rise. We expect the first superclouds to appear soon.
